Under Secretary of State

Colonial Office

North Borneo the Rev. P. Schule who is of German nationality

and who formerly worked in that field, and that applications

are at present being made for the return of Basel missionaries

to other parts of the Empire. Former missionaries of the

Basel Society have been allowed by the French Government to

return to the French Cameroons in connection with the Paris

Evangelical Missionary Society. Permission has recently been

given by H.M. Secretary of State for the Colonies to the United

Free Church of Scotland to send out three German missionaries

of the Bremen Society to the Gold Coast to resume work in their

former fields. In the case of the application on behalf of

Mr Jucker, no question of German nationality arises since

his nationality is Swisa.

As the return of Mr Jucker is a question of con-

siderable urgency from the standpoint of the Basel Mission,

we should esteem it a favour if an early reply could be

given to this request, either to us or directly by the

Government of Hong Kong to Mr Jucker who is at present

stationed at Canton.

I am

Sir.

Your obedient servant,

En Oldha
